So have you ever heard of a rinkydink little hotel chain that rhymes with Folly Bay Gin? Well, that little hotel chain ain’t so little any more. It’s also a component of a multinational corporation these days, as most everything is, that owns quite a few other hotel brands besides, totaling up to slightly less than 5,000 hotels worldwide.
Now, imagine this hospitality industry titan’s web presence for but a moment. Tens of thousands of people making reservations every day, and many others besides simply using it to shop or plan trips. Now imagine if this site was incredibly user friendly, always worked, and made frequently requested information so readily available that it seemed to read your mind. It doesn’t do any of those things, not even close, but just imagine for a moment that it did. Even given all of this, how large a tech support department do you think such a website would require?
Go on, come up with a number.
Now come up with a smaller number. Then a smaller one. When you get to the double digits, keep going. When you’re almost in the single digits, stop.
So yeah, that’s what I do for a living. Or, part of what I do for a living, and not even the larger part, I should say. Do you now understand why I sleep so much and communicate so little? If so, could you relay the clue to my husband?
* People who think it will be amusing to fire off a few emails to the ol’ tech support department out of jest are welcome to do so. Just keep in mind that I know where you live.
