AOLTW Wants to buy Red Hat. First reaction: Why? Second reaction: No. AOL has a history of software acquisitions that don’t go anywhere or accomplish anything, other than gutting the victims of talent. (No, not raiding the victims for talent, which would at least make some sense…) Up until now, I believed that they simply had too much money. But I’m beginning to wonder if perhaps they just want something to wave at competitors and investors for a time, knowing full well that eventually the new child company will wither and die in AOL’s huge, unwieldy arms? If so, I wish they would at least stop death-marching companies I like.
